This is the largest portion of the curriculum, including sunrise Satsang, followed by daily Asana practice. Early morning Satsang will always include a form of meditation, and will also often include various traditional yoga techniques, such as Mantra, Kriya (cleansing techniques) and Pranayama (breathwork) drawing inspiration from <a href="https://www.katonahyoga.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Katonah Yoga®</a>. The daily Asana practice is 90 minutes of rigorous, intentional, breath-based vinyasa.

Yoga Technique, Training & Practice

The Sacred Fig Teaching Methodology is unique in it's approach. Yes, demonstrating, assisting, and adjusting students is certainly covered. We also weave in deep personal development via vulnerability work, confidence building &amp; group dynamics. Finally, we'll cover voice, rhythm, tone, and pace. The Sacred Fig Education is specifically geared to direct trainees to discover their authentic voice.

Teaching Methodology

The Sacred Fig anatomy curriculum is far from a typical anatomy memorization snooze-fest. You'll learn about current studies and ground-breaking movement theories in a real-life setting. We cover both the human physical anatomy (skeletal, muscular, respiratory, &amp; cardiovascular systems) as well as energetic anatomy (prana, chakras, nadis, bandhas). There is an emphasis on understanding fascia &amp; it's role in shaping our bodies. All the anatomical principles learned in the training are applicable to yoga asana practice, and any movement practice, in a real-life setting.

Anatomy & Physiology

The Sacred Fig has a non-traditional approach to Yoga Philosophy. Expect a healthy dialogue on key concepts from The Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita, but that's just the start. As one could dedicate years to yoga philosophy, we hone-in on key traditional philosophical concepts. We also explore present-moment awareness techniques, and mindfulness practice as it relates to a yoga teacher.&nbsp;

Yoga Philosophy & Ethics

Using accelerated learning techniques, trainees will practice teaching right from day one, in a variety of settings &amp; scenarios. We utilize technology, for example, via video feedback, as another layer to the learning process. The Sacred Fig Practicum is regarded at the forefront of Yoga education, using a thoroughly considered approach to teaching that greatly expands the potential and speed in which one learns. On our trainings, trainees do not memorize a set sequence, nor do they teach from a script. Scripts and set sequences do not prepare students to teach, as we have seen over the past eight years we have been training teachers. Don't take our word for it, but rather look at the success of our grads, who now teach all over the world, have opened their own yoga studios, lead retreats, and built their own retreat centers!

Bali Waterfall

This rigorous 200 hour teacher training program takes place over 22 days. Over the course of the training, expect one rest day, as well as one afternoon off. Below is a typical schedule, which tends to vary slightly each training, according to the specific needs &amp; pace of each individual group. The days will naturally vary, as each day builds upon the next. Check in the property starts at 2pm on Feb 3rd, and check out on February 24th is 10am. Plan to land in Denpasar Airport in Bali no later than 8am on February 3rd, and depart Denpasar Airport in Bali no earlier than 5pm on February 24th.

Sunrise Satsang. 
Satsanga Sādhanā is a transformative 45-minute seated practice that intricately weaves together meditation, mantra, prānāyāma, and kriyā techniques. This music forward practice integrates various lineages, including Katonah Yoga®, and has been synthesized by Tony Lupinacci. Each class is framed by a Sankalpā or intention. By tailoring the rhythm of the breath to the beat of the music students are invited on an immersive exploration of the self.

Asana.
Rigorous, intentional, breath-based vinyasa, led by The Sacred Fig faculty. After practice, there's just enough time to enjoy a fresh young coconut water, or dip in the pool before breakfast. 

Nourish.
Enjoy a healthy breakfast of living foods. Expect eggs, local tropical fruits, turmeric tonic, homemade slow-rise sourdough, homemade jams, and sauteed veggies. Meals are vegetarian, and there's options for everyone. Food is often organic & local. Bali coffee & teas are available.

Morning Session.
In our morning sessions, we often start by critically discussing broader concepts like 'alignment, stretching, or balance', in the context of our physical yoga practice. We'll look at real bodies in the asanas, and dive deep into whats happening both physiologically & energetically. In these sessions, our senior faculty artfully distill complex anatomical, bio-mechanical, and philosophical ideas into lively discourse on what it means to do Yoga. 

Integrate.
Use this time to study, or enjoy a nap by the pool. The property has a gorgeous brand-new cold plunge & sauna, and also offers massage priced reasonably at only US $20 per hour.

Afternoon Session.
The afternoon session varies daily, and covers a wide range of topics, from yoga philosophy, myo-fascial release, breathwork, energetics of the body & movement, alignment of key poses, and physical adjustments, and teacher breakout sessions, .

Evening Session.
Evening sessions are specifically geared to be more experiential, spontaneous & appropriate for the hour. Everything from film screenings, to dance parties, and embodied leadership night sessions. Some evenings will not have required sessions, while others may run slightly longer than the scheduled time.

Somewhere between the stunning rice terraces and ridiculous surf… the daily offerings that mystically appear throughout the day, and the ever abundant tropical fruits &amp; flowers. Our Yoga Teacher Training takes place in the undiscovered northwest coast of Bali. It's far from the traffic + overdevelopment of the rest of Bali. Here in Pemuteran, life slows down. In the distance, you can see Java's majestic Ijen Volcano, rising over Menjangan Island. The Bali Sea ripples calmly against volcanic sand. Sinuous ribbons of green unfold, speckled with temples, coconut trees, and rice terraces in every direction. From our property, hike in the jungle for an hour, and end up at a small secret waterfall, perfect for a cold plunge. Waking up with the sun, meditating, &amp; practicing yoga seem to come naturally here. Bali is the only island in Indonesia (out of tens of thousands) that’s Hindu, and their culture has a uniqueness all of it’s own. From the temple offerings, to the sound of the gamelan, and that sweet smile that the Balinese so readily share, Bali tends to sweep most off their feet. Bali is just south of the equator, so it’s reliably hot &amp; sunny. It’s tropical and wet. Our property is a 3.5 hour drive from Bali's airport. <h2>Prerequisites</h2>A positive attitude. We’re serious! A sense of openness &amp; a desire to learn are truly the most important things you can bring to this training. At least one year of consistent yoga asana practice (2-3 times per week), and a basic understanding of vinyasa yoga. Trainees are asked to take 3 vinyasa classes (from 3 different teachers), and 3 non- vinyasa classes (such as Kundalini, Iyengar, Yin, etc) prior to the training, and take notes on these classes. Include in your notes what you loved about the class &amp; teacher, what you didn’t like, their musical choices, how the teacher entered the room &amp; engaged students prior to class, sequencing, adjustments, language, how the teacher moved about the room, did they demo, how your body felt during &amp; after, and anything else that struck you. Please bring these notes with you to training.&nbsp; A basic familiarity of Ashtanga Vinyasa, Primary Series. You don’t need to memorize or master it, just be familiar with it. This is not an Ashtanga training; however, understanding of Ashtanga will create a strong foundation for you to build on. Write down your experience with these classes – including how the sequence felt in your body, the flow of the sequence, which poses challenged you, and any other feedback. <h2>The retreat center</h2>Our training is held at a stunning private estate on Bali's Northwest coast. We have exclusive access to a handful of private villas, clustered together, each with their own private pool and chic living spaces. We're just a few minutes drive from the calm ocean. Surrounded by jungle &amp; fireflies, the lush property includes a handful of swimming pools tapering off into the jungle and ocean in the distance.  Expect lovely touches like turmeric tonic at breakfast, and turn-down service for your room each evening. The yoga shala (pictured here), is our sacred space. The shala has sweeping views of the mountains and sea in the distance. The entire space is shaded, with gorgeous reclaimed wood floors, fans, a sound system, and all the props you would expect from a modern yoga studio. Of course if you feel more comfortable with your own mat, bring it along! This is where we start our day, each morning at sunrise. Each villa is unique, with it's own charm. Some villas are two stories, others feature a rooftop terrace. Some have swinging day beds, others have hammocks. Each villa has it's own private pool, a fabulous lounge area, and a modern kitchen with full size refrigerator, and all the amenities to brew Bali coffee or local tea in the comfort of your own villa. You can opt for a single, double, or triple room., with options available for every budget. All rooms feature fine linens, AC and rain showers. Some rooms feature an outdoor shower. Please note that all villas are unique, and all rooms + beds are unique! If you are looking for corporate resort experience, like a JW Mariott, this is not the training for you. If you are looking for understated luxury and barefoot adventure, then this is the program for you! A lot of the menu is vegan, with non-vegan options (like eggs and dairy milk) &nbsp;offered on the side. The restaurant is mindful &amp; confident with accommodating dietary restrictions such as gluten free. Please note that our villas are in the jungle, and while all the bedrooms are fully enclosed, many of the villas have outdoor living space + bathrooms.
